Guide: buy and sell a token
This guide is for anyone trading a token on hartiilabs.com. Every token has its own trading panel on its page. You trade directly against the token's bonding curve, a built-in price formula that always buys and sells, so you never wait for another person.
What you need
- A Quai wallet: Pelagus on a computer or Blip on a phone.
- QUAI for the amount you want to spend, plus network gas (the small fee each transaction pays to the network).
- Your wallet set to Quai Network.
Buy
- Open any token page, for example from the home page grid or search.
- In the Trade panel, make sure the Buy tab is selected.
- Under QUAI TO SPEND, type an amount or press a quick chip (1, 5, 25 or 100 QUAI).
- Read YOU RECEIVE (EST.). This is your estimate of how many tokens you will get.
- Press Connect wallet to buy if you have not connected yet. Approve in your wallet.
- Press Buy. Your wallet asks you to sign. Check the amount and confirm.
You will see Sent — waiting for confirmation… and then Bought confirmed, with how many tokens you got. A View on explorer link opens the transaction.
Sell
- Open the token page and choose the Sell tab.
- Under the token's symbol, type how many tokens to sell, or press 25%, 50%, 75% or 100%.
- Press Sell.
By default a sell asks for two confirmations: first an approval for exactly the amount you sell, then the sale. This is a safety choice. You can switch to a one-time approval in Settings.
Details
Press Details at the top of the panel to see more:
- Slippage tolerance is how far the price may move against you before the trade cancels itself instead of filling at a worse price. Auto picks a value from your trade size: 0.5% under 1 QUAI, 1% from 1 to 10 QUAI, 2% above 10 up to 50 QUAI, 3% above 50 QUAI. You can also choose 0.5%, 1.0% or 3.0%.
- Price impact is how much your own trade moves the price. On a small curve a big trade can move it a lot. If it is high, the button asks you to tap again to confirm.
- Est. gas and Est. total show the network fee and your total cost for a buy.
Fees and limits
- New curves charge 1% on each buy and each sell. The curve owner can change it later, but the contract caps it at 3%.
- Half of every fee goes to the token's creator and half to the Hartii Labs treasury.
- Launch protection: for the first 20 blocks after a launch, one wallet can buy at most 1% of the curve supply. If you hit it, try a smaller amount or wait a minute.
- A creator's own allocation unlocks slowly (vesting). Creators can only sell the part that has unlocked.
Common mistakes
- Wrong network. Switch your wallet to Quai Network, then try again.
- "Insufficient QUAI — you have …" on the button. You need the amount plus gas. Lower the amount or add QUAI.
- "Price moved beyond your slippage tolerance." The market moved while you signed. Try again, or raise slippage a little. Be careful: a high slippage lets the trade fill at a worse price.
- Tokens missing from your wallet after a buy. Wallets only show tokens you add by contract address. Import the token address once and your balance appears.
- A trade looks pending. Do not send it again. Open the View on explorer link, or look up your wallet on quaiscan.io, and read the receipt. If it says Reverted on-chain — only gas was spent, nothing changed and you can try again.
